Wow! We made it.. NB 23Things week 11 completed :)
Using Apps last week was easy for us because we both have readers and download eBooks regularly.

It was great to have the opportunity to try out some of these tools that we probably would not have checked out.  We worked on this together which was a plus and made it fun.  We especially like using twitter and pinterest.  Our most challenging session was images but also probably the most useful and it has prompted us to be more careful about the images we use.

Just one question: How do we find each other?  We are interested in seeing what the libraries have written.

We created a Scoop.it account through twitter.  Found it to be easy and fun and one could spend many hours exploring Scoop.it.  The most difficult part was getting back into our twitter account!

Listened to the CBC Radio podcast "Q with Jian Ghomeshi:  Is this the end of libraries as we know them?"  The New York Public Library proposed a 300 million dollar renovation project to move into storage around 2 million items of reference materials to make room for more public/social spaces.  The debate discussed the traditional library and its relevance in the digital world if they don't adapt to becoming more of a community gathering space.  Some of the pros and cons discussed by the panel were: unless libraries maintain their traditional values (their assets) they become irrelevant as the information can be found at any internet cafe like Starbucks.  On the other hand, in Toronto the introduction of more social spaces within the library resulted in 30% increase in usage.  Another point argued was that this change is necessary to justify their public and private funding.
